Hempfield recCenter offers several certified training programs from the American Red Cross. Classes are available to members and non-members.
American Red Cross Lifeguard TrainingRegister for American Red Cross Lifeguard Training
Learn how to prevent and respond to water emergencies. Detailed training includes hands-on skills as well as written tests. The certification, which includes first aid, CPR and AED training, is valid for two years and is accepted nationwide.
A skills pre-test is required to take this course. Participants must attend all classes and successfully complete all skills and written testing. Must be 15 years of age before completion of the class—proof of age is required. There will be a $10 administrative fee assessed for anyone withdrawing from the course within five days of the start of the course.

American Red Cross Lifeguard Training RecertificationRegister for Lifeguard Recertification
This course allows those currently certified to review their skills and update their certification. Participants are required to bring their own pocket mask and have a Lifeguard/CPR certificate that is no more than 30 days expired.
Participants must register in person and provide copies of lifeguard certificate. No certificate will be accepted that has expired more than 30 days from the start of this class. You must attend both days.
Class size is limited, please register early. Registration is required by May 14.

Basic Water RescueRegister for Basic Water Rescue
Knowing how to respond to a water emergency is a critical skill. Individuals with pools, camp personnel, BSA/GSA leaders, first responders and others whose work takes them in an around the water will benefit from this course.
THIS IS NOT A CERTIFIED LIFEGUARD COURSE.
The course has both a written test and in-water skills.
Participants need to be comfortable in chest-deep water. Course length is four hours. Upon completion, the participant will receive a certificate good for three years.
