Message from the Director
Have you noticed the changes that have occurred over the last couple years at Hempfield Rec? We are always looking for ways to improve our services for our members and the community. Over the past few years, we have been fortunate to have the financial resources from operations to improve our facilities.
Another major change will be happening this fall. Our front desk will be relocated in our lobby to improve security and access to our facilities and programs. After countless hours by staff and committees reviewing the best way to improve access to our facility, we have come up with a plan that will function efficiently during all times of the day and during all seasons to access our members. Over the few weeks it takes to renovate our lobby, we ask for your patience and understanding as we again enhance your experience when you come through our front doors. We hope you will be pleased.
Hempfield Rec Center is pleased to announce another partnership in the community with Hempfield Woman’s Club. The Woman’s Club conducts the Annual Flea Markets on Memorial Day and Labor Day. We will be working in collaboration with the Woman’s Club in order to continue this annual community event that has become a traditional holiday event over the years.
In our recent 2009 Annual Report to our members and municipalities it was reported how our organization contributes positively to the local economy. Even though Hempfield Rec is a nonprofit tax-exempt organization, more than $303,000 was generated during 2009 in Federal taxes and $58,890 was generated in State and Local taxes. In addition, with the employment of more than 315 full-time and part-time employees, more than $2,040,706 was put back into the local community for services required by our employees.
While Hempfield Area Recreation Commission provides wholesome, affordable recreation opportunities it also provides a positive impact on the job market, tax revenues and the local economy.
In addition to the Labor Day Flea Market at Amos Herr Park, mark your calendars for two other special events coming up this fall: Amos Herr 5K Honey Run will be on Sunday, Aug. 22 and the 31st Annual Amos Herr Park Country Fair is scheduled for Sunday, Sept. 19.
On behalf of all the employees and volunteers who work at Hempfield Rec, thank you for making a positive impact on the lives of the thousands of people who come through our doors. Thank you for your continued support.
