Message from the Director
As we prepare for the busiest season of the year, we are excited about the opportunity of managing and operating the East Petersburg Community Pool this summer. This partnership with our local municipality
provides added value to a Hempfield Rec membership and includes more programs and opportunities for those who swim at East Pete. This is a win-win situation.
In addition to operating a new outdoor pool complex, we are planning some new programs that will enhance our youth programs for the summer. Our junior tennis program has been growing under the directio n of Jon Bair, Director of Junior Tennis. Jon was recently recognized by his peers as Central Penn USTA Tennis Pro of the Year. Speaking of tennis, we continue to host four sites of the popular National Junior Tennis & Learning (NJTL) program for youth ages 6–15. We are excited to be offering a new NFL Flag Football Camp through USA Football and its FUNdamentals system, Oben Flag Football. Utilizing the skills of several coaches we will run Field Hockey, Volleyball and Basketball Camps. Four Seasons Golf Course, is offering some outstanding Golf Camps this summer.
Our Summer Playground, the very first program Hempfield Area Recreation Commission offered, is celebrating its 35th year of providing supervised, safe outdoor activities for youth. It is no wonder we serve close to 1,000 youth per day throughout the summer during our various programs.
We will play host to the 6th Annual Koser Jeweler’s USTA $10,000 Tennis Challenge May 12–19. This event attracts women professional tennis players from around the world for a week of quality tennis culminating with the finals played on our tennis stadium court on Sunday, May 19. Open to the public, this event is a great place to see the rising stars of tennis! Go to our special web page for details during the event:
