Day 2 Recap:
Day 2 of the Koser Jewelers Tennis Challenge saw poor weather throughout the day, and play was ultimately suspended due to rain and heat.
The highlight of the day was the Celebrating Inspiring Women Luncheon. The luncheon had a strong turnout from the community. Guests came to support the Dress a Girl Around the World cause held at the Blue Collar restaurant, located across the street from Hempfield recCenter.
Despite the best efforts of tournament organizers and volunteers, only one first round qualifying match was completed for the day. The remainder of qualifying matches are now scheduled for Wednesday morning.
All results from today will be found here. Photos are available each day here. Photos will be available to view, download and use after each day of the event.
Matches continue Wednesday at 10 a.m. Seven singles matches remain for spots in the main draw, which is scheduled to also begin Wednesday.
Local wildcard Elizabeth Ionescu of York, Pa. is set to take on No. 1 seed Renata Zarazua (MEX) tomorrow evening under the lights. Ionescu will make her Koser Jewelers Tennis Challenge debut after the first feature match (5:30 p.m.) is completed. Doubles is slated to begin Wednesday, as well.
