Day 3 Recap:
Day 3 of the Koser Jewelers Tennis Challenge wrapped up its singles qualifying matches with three Americans advancing to the main draw. The singles main draw kicked off in the early evening.
Highlights from the day included former champion Robin Anderson (USA) defeating Anastasia Tikhonova 6-3, 6-2. Ann Li, from King of Prussia, Pa., won her first round match against fellow American Elizabeth Mandlik 6-2, 7-6(3).
In addition to the professional play on the court, Hempfield recCenter hosted a High School Night with nearly 25 high school students, all competing for a chance to win a pizza party for their tennis team. Hempfield High School senior, Cooper Lehman, secured the win (and the pizza party) for his team.
Matches were suspended in the evening due to rain. Main draw singles matches are scheduled to continue Thursday (8/8) starting at 10:30 a.m., along with main draw doubles.
Local wildcard Elizabeth Ionescu (USA) will play her rescheduled match Thursday against No. 1 seed Renata Zarazua (MEX) starting no earlier than 12:30 p.m.
