Day 5 Recap:
Due to another day of poor weather conditions, the Koser Jewelers Tennis Challenge had a later-than-expected start time at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. Earlier in the day, a decision was also made to cancel the doubles draw for the remainder of the tournament.
A notable moment within today’s play included, No. 1 seed Renata Zarazua (MEX) getting off to a strong start and defeating her first-round opponent and wildcard, Elizabeth Ionescu (USA), 6-2, 6-1.
Throughout the day, Hempfield RecCenter held indoor events such as Koser Kids Day, a free adult clinic, and a Red Ball for All event to keep the community busy while waiting for match play to start back up. All three events had immense support with more than 100 kids showing up for Kids Day, while the other events were also packed with attendees.
Matches were suspended once more at 7 p.m. due to a rain delay. They continued late into the evening. Main draw singles matches are scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. Saturday morning.
All results can be found here. Downloadable photos from the event are available here and organized by day.
