Hempfield Community Giving Tree: Growing Kindness Together
The holiday season is a powerful reminder of what makes our community so special—our willingness to show up for one another. Each year, the Hempfield Community Giving Tree brings together neighbors, organizations, and students to support local families who may be experiencing challenges during the holiday season.
This project is a partnership between the Hempfield recCenter, community sponsors, so MANY local churches, area businesses, Hempfield School District employees and the Hempfield High School ANCHOR Club. Together, we work to make sure that every child in our district feels seen, supported, and included during this time of year.
What the Giving Tree Means for Families
The Giving Tree supports Hempfield families who may be facing a difficult season for a variety of reasons—such as changes in employment, unexpected expenses, temporary displacement, or other circumstances creating financial strain. While each family’s story is unique, our goal is always the same: to offer kindness, stability, and a sense of hope during a time when it’s needed most.
We focus on two types of support:
Gift Sponsorships for Students
Hempfield recCenter members and community partners select “wish tags” for students and provide gifts tailored to their interests and needs. This ensures each child receives something special, chosen just for them.
Food Boxes & Gift Cards
Through the generosity of local churches, companies, and the HHS ANCHOR Club, families also receive food boxes or grocery gift cards to help relieve the financial pressure that often comes with the holidays.
A Community Effort Powered by Compassion
Role players in this project include:
- Hempfield recCenter, serving as both a sponsor and a central hub for connecting additional community partners.
- Local churches and businesses, contributing food items, gift cards, and additional family sponsorships.
- Hempfield High School’s ANCHOR Club, whose student volunteers assemble food boxes and help prepare items for distribution.
- School staff, who help identify student needs and coordinate the logistics behind the scenes.
As the facilitator, I’m grateful to witness the generosity that pours into this project each year. It’s a powerful reminder that when we come together, we can create a meaningful difference for our neighbors.
Why This Matters
For many families, the holidays can be overwhelming—not because of a lack of love, but because life happens. Job transitions, medical issues, housing changes, and rising living costs can place significant stress on households. The Giving Tree allows us as a community to step in with care and dignity, providing support without judgment.
Our aim is simple:
To make the season a little brighter for Hempfield kids and to remind families that they are supported, valued, and never alone.
Thank You to Our Sponsors
Every donation, every gift, and every hour volunteered makes a real impact. We are incredibly thankful for everyone who helps the Giving Tree grow year after year.
If you are part of the Hempfield community, thank you for helping us lift up local families through kindness and connection. Your support truly makes this project possible.
