Day 1 Recap
Day 1 of the Koser Jewelers Tennis Challenge wrapped up after 16 first-round qualifying singles matches.
Highlights from the day included Ava Markham (USA) defeating fellow American Ashley Lahey in a third-set tiebreak. Robin Anderson (USA) also won 6-2, 6-4.
Wildcard and Lancaster Country Club teaching professional, Carolina Cuevas-Bucio, had her own personal cheering section of local players and fans, but lost to Madison Sieg (USA) on stadium court 6-2, 6-0.
A rising sophomore at Penn State, wildcard player Olivia Dorner competed in her first-ever professional tournament today. She lost the battle to American Whitney Osuigwe (USA) after almost capturing the first set. Alana Smith (USA) and Hanna Chang (USA) both swept their opponents in quick matches in the afternoon. Kennedy Shafer and Christina Rosca (USA) had an action-packed afternoon match, with Rosca defeating Shafer 6-4, 3-6, 6-1.

More qualifying matches will continue Tuesday, August 8th at 10 a.m. In singles, eight matches remain to be played for spots in the main draw, which begins Wednesday. On the doubles side, more than half of the draw is comprised of American players, and the main draw matches will kick off in the afternoon.
