Day 2 Recap
Tuesday at the Koser Jewelers Tennis Challenge came to a close with the completion of qualifying singles and the first round of main draw doubles. The stands were crowded on all four courts throughout the day at Hempfield recCenter.
On the singles side, eight women qualified for the main draw (begins Wednesday), including four Americans. Former Koser Jewelers champion, Robin Anderson, beat Eri Hozumi. She will face No. 7 seed Erika Andreeva in the first round on Wednesday. Alana Smith defeated Hanna Chang 7-5, 7-5. Chang defended multiple match points in a grueling final game.
On the doubles side, 2022 doubles champion Sophie Chang and her partner, Yuliia Starodubtseva, beat the 2021 doubles champion Alexa Glatch and her partner, Ganna Poznikhirenko, 6-1, 3-6, 10-8. Americans Hailey Baptiste and Whitney Osuigwe defeated Japan’s Eri Hozumi and Moyuka Uchijima 6-3, 5-7, 10-8. Jaeda Daniel and McCartney Kessler took down Chloe Beck and Christina Rosca 6-2, 6-7(4), 11-9.

Wednesday matches begin at 11 a.m. with 15 main draw singles matchups and the first evening feature match starting at 5:30 p.m.
After winning doubles at the Prague Open, Oksana Kalashnikova took the first flight she could to arrive in Landisville and team up with Iryna Shymanovich in the second feature match Wednesday evening.
