Day 4 Recap
Thursday at the Koser Jewelers Tennis Challenge started a bit slow due to a rain delay that kicked in fewer than 30 minutes into the action. However, once the sun broke free the stands filled and the second round of the singles draw began. There was also a free tennis racquet raffle and a USTA Captains Appreciation event to round out the day.
Renata Zarazua and eighth-seed Sujeong Jang lengthened their strong starts and are set to meet in Friday’s quarterfinal, winning 6-2 6-1, and 6-4 6-3 respectively. American wildcard Makenna Jones continues to be a pleasant surprise, upsetting sixth-seeded Olivia Gadecki 6-4 6-2.
Both Jones and fellow American wildcard, Mary Stoiana — a standout at Texas A&M — are set to play Americans Caroline Dolehide and Madison Brengle in tomorrow’s action.
Results can be found here. Photos from the event can be found here. Photos are available to view after each day of the event.
